Look out for triggers, journal about how it made you feel and how you coped with it. Also, make note of daily accomplishments. In addition, meditation and walking are also great tools or anything that makes you feel good about yourself as long as it does not harm you or anybody else.
What does the process of therapy look like? For the first 1-2 sessions, this will be an assessment stage in which I gather history to gain a deeper understanding of your situation. In addition, we will develop a treatment plan together. Therapy requires vulnerability which can trigger uncomfortable and hurtful feelings. It’s normal to feel resistant to opening up however, it is crucial to the process of healing. “What you can name, you can tame.” Keep in mind that everything is at your pace. I will periodically check-in with you on how progress is going and what needs to change in order to reach your treatment goals.
How frequent should I do therapy? I recommend weekly sessions for a minimum of 6 months and we can reassess change in frequency at that time depending on progress made and your needs. Generally, it is common to see clients do weekly sessions for more than 6 months. However, I understand that everyone’s needs are different and I am happy to work with you to meet your needs.
